Back by popular demand: The Charlton Toy Library Pamper Evening

We will be repeating this amazingly successful event on Friday 18th May 2012, 7.30-10.30pm. Tickets on sale now £5 each. This includes a glass of wine and a free treatment taster session.

Sarah’s swim in the Docks!

One of our very dedicated committee members, Sarah Roseblade, is training for a rather arduous fundraising challenge… or rather two challenges:

1) One Mile Team Relay Swim at the local pool on the 28th April. The team consisits of Sarah, Katie Longhurst and The Dolphin (a local swimming legend) aka Gordana Balaban.

2) One Mile outdoor swim (in the dock!) as part of the Great London Swim on the 26th May.

They have been training hard and Sarah is trying to get up to 3 nights a week… which is hard going for a busy working / mum!

Sarah says that she is really, really worried about the outdoor swim and not being able to see where she is going in the dark cold docks. So please support her and her team.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor them and donations will be processed and passed on quickly. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity’s behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Shop Online and Raise Money!

Have you heard about easyfundraising yet? It’s the easiest way to help raise money for Charlton Toy Library! If you already shop online with retailers such as Amazon, M&S, Argos, John Lewis, Comet, Vodafone, eBay, Boden and Play.com, then we need you to sign up for free to raise money while you shop!

So how does it work?

You shop directly with the retailer as you would normally, but if you sign up to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/charltontoylibrary for free and use the links on the easyfundraising site to take you to the retailer, then a percentage of whatever you spend comes directly to us at no extra cost to yourself.

How much can you raise?

Spend £100 with M&S online or Amazon and you raise £2.50 for us. £100 with WH Smith puts £2.00 in our pocket and so on. There’s over 2,000 retailers on their site, and some of the donations can be as much as 15% of your purchase.

Did you know you don’t have to spend anything to raise funds for Charlton Toy Library with easyfundraising? The FREE FUNDS page lets you raise OVER £250 for us without spending a penny! The featured retailers will make free donations just for switching to their service, participating in free trials or even simply registering on their site!

For example, eBay offer a £4.50 donation when you register and place just one bid (it doesn’t even have to be a wining bid!), while The National Lottery will pay us £2 just for registering on their site and playing Lotto online for the first time!

Opening hours

We welcome children 0-5 years on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30-12.30; please note that we are open during term time only. (Click here to view Greenwich Council term dates).

Special sessions

We hold fortnightly music sessions on Thursdays with Jo, start time 10.30am until 11.00am.
The sessions are free of charge for members, but donations are welcome!

Birthday Parties

Charlton Toy Library is the ideal place to host your child’s birthday party. We are based in our own purpose designed premises within Charlton House. Our premises are safe and child-friendly… and filled with such an amazing range of toys that we can adapt to numerous different party themes. We have soft play and a small ball pool, small slides and activity cubes, dressing up clothes and much much more. We are suitable for the under-fives only.

If you are not already familiar with Charlton Toy Library then pop along when we’re open to have a look. Our opening times are on this website.

Book your party at Charlton Toy Library by contacting either Gemma or Simone (who also makes beautiful birthday cakes) via the dedicated email address below or by phone: Gemma 07403 226233 or Simone on 07551 809633. They will give you all the details, discuss any special requests or themes and will check on free dates. Then complete the booking form that they send you and return it along with your deposit.

If you are not already a member of Charlton Toy Library you will need to become one to be covered by our insurance. Let them know if this is the case and they will sort it out.

Local businesses donate for Pampered Chef Evening

On Friday 18th November we held a Pampered Chef evening at the Toy Library. We cleared away the toys, set up tables and spent the evening making desserts… and eating them!! We had a delicious time… and raised some much-needed funding in the process too.

Thanks to Ottie and the Bea, Theatre Bugs, Boppin’ Bunnies, Pistachios Cafe, Go West and Jeanette from Pampered chef who contributed to our Pampered Chef raffle. We also have raffle tickets up for sale at the stay and play sessions for the Christmas Raffle to be drawn on Friday 16 December.

Pampered Chef is the direct seller of premier kitchen tools.

Donation from Blackheath Prep PTA

On behalf of all our members, we would like to say a huge thank you to Blackheath Prep School Nursery PTA for their very kind donation of £586. This is the second donation that they have made to the Toy Library this year. Their generosity will help us to continue our services at Chalrton House and to keep our much-needed mobile outreach van going.

Charlton Toy Library is not part of Greenwich Council or any Leisure Library. It is an independent voluntary group which has to secure its own funding. That’s why fundraising is a vital part of the Toy Library’s day to day running.

This year and last year many organisations have supported the Toy Library:

Blackheath Nursery and Preparatory School PTA

Thorntree Primary School

Along with them, we have also been supported by our members and friends who have taken part in sporting events, our Pamper Evening and other events to help raise funds. Many have very kindly donated money through the simple-to-use Virgin Money Giving site.
